Arrowroot (Maranta Arundinacea) – Seeking Market Opportunities for the Raw Material Area in Lai Chau Viet Nam

Arrowroot, scientifically known as Maranta Arundinacea, is the tuberous root of the arrowroot plant, a common crop in Vietnam. This native plant has been cultivated by the people of Lai Chau Province for a long time, primarily for the production of arrowroot starch. This starch is most commonly used in making arrowroot noodles, a familiar dish in Vietnamese meals.

Arrowroot starch is not only used for noodle production but is also widely applied in food processing, such as in desserts, soups, or as a thickening agent in both Asian and Western cuisines. Moreover, arrowroot starch is an important ingredient in functional food production. With its high protein content and valuable nutrients, arrowroot powder is a suitable source of nutrition for both adults and children, helping improve digestive health.

Arrowroot is typically planted between February and May and harvested from October to December. Currently, Phong Tho District in Lai Chau Province has developed nearly 400 hectares of arrowroot cultivation, concentrated in communes such as Lan Nhi Thang, Nam Xe, Hoang Then, and Ma Ly Pho, with an average yield of 40-50 tons per hectare.

Mai Anh Group (MAG) is seeking partners to develop the market for arrowroot in Lai Chau, particularly with production facilities and factories processing arrowroot starch and noodles.
