To fully exploit the potential and strengths of the Vietnam – Laos – China border junction area, creating development opportunities for Dien Bien province in general, Muong Nhe district and the border districts of Nam Po, Dien Bien in particular, promoting socio-economic development, national defense and security; realizing the Agreement on the Regulations on Border Management and Land Border Gate Management between Vietnam and China and the Agreements signed by the two Parties; commensurate with the good relationship between Dien Bien province and Yunnan province, upgrading the A Pa Chai – Long Phu opening according to the procedures prescribed in Decree No. 112/2014/ND-CP dated November 21, 2014 of the Government regulating the management of land border gates (amending and supplementing a number of articles in Decree No. 34/2023/ND-CP dated June 16, 2023 of the Government) is very important, necessary and urgent.
It is known that the authorities at all levels of Yunnan province, China have approved and approved the investment and construction policies to upgrade the Long Phu – A Pa Chai national border gate. Since the end of the year, the Chinese side has started the project of constructing the first phase of Long Phu border gate, and is expected to complete the basic construction items in the first quarter of 2025.
After being upgraded to a bilateral border gate, A Pa Chai – Long Phu opening will become the only border gate between Dien Bien province (Vietnam) and Yunnan province (China). This opens up the opportunity to turn this border gate into a gateway connecting the provinces of the dynamic economic region of National Highway 6 including Hoa Binh, Son La and Dien Bien with the Southwest region of China. This is a favorable condition for the two sides to organize exchange and cooperation activities and trade. Therefore, investing in local infrastructure in the coming time is extremely necessary for the border gate to come into operation soon.
