The medicinal part of the cibotium barometz plant is usually light brown or pinkish brown stems or roots, 4-10cm long, with a rough, concave surface, surrounded by a few yellow-brown hairs, hard to cut and hard to break when dry, with a bitter-sweet taste. It is very susceptible to mold and should be stored in a dry place.
It has many uses such as anti-oxidation, anti-virus, anti-prostate cancer, liver protection, anti-inflammation, and pain relief. Its roots are used as a blood coagulant, as well as to treat ulcers, rheumatism, typhoid, and cough.
