Sticklac has the scientific name Lacca-Stick-lac.
Sticklac (Lacca) is a special red resin secreted by the lac insect (Laccifer lacca Kerr.), belonging to the family Lacciferidae. These insects feed on sap from host trees and produce natural lac resin.

 

Development and Harvesting of Sticklac

The development process of sticklac includes two important steps:

1. Choosing a host tree: The host tree serves as a food source throughout the life cycle of the lac insects, helping them produce lac resin. Selecting the right host tree is crucial for the insects’ development and the quality of the resin.
2. Releasing and harvesting sticklac: This is a key step in the production of sticklac.

Harvesting Schedule

There are two harvesting seasons for lacstick each year:

• Grafting in August–October and harvesting in April–May.
• Grafting in April–May and harvesting in September–October.

Uses of Lac Resin

According to traditional medicine, lac resin has a bitter taste and a cooling property, with the following effects:

• Clears heat, detoxifies, and stops bleeding.

In addition, lac resin has other practical applications, such as:

• Natural dye.
• Used in industries to produce shellac, a substance used as an insulator, UV shield, and polish for products such as wood, bamboo, fabric, leather, etc.
