Rhizoma Homalomenae (Qian Nian Jian) is one of the valuable medicinal herbs, native to Vietnam and also found in India and Cambodia. The part used for medicinal purposes is the rhizome, known for its warm nature, bitter-spicy taste, and distinctive aroma.
In traditional medicine, Rhizoma Homalomenae is used to treat cold dampness, alleviate joint and muscle pain, and is also used as a digestive stimulant, effectively aiding in the treatment of stomach pain.
- Soil conditions
Rhizoma Homalomenae thrives in moist, shaded areas, often found under natural forest canopies or along streams. Additionally, it can be cultivated in gardens with moist soil or intercropped under planted forest canopies. The plant prefers shade but is drought-tolerant, allowing it to adapt to various ecological conditions.
- Planting Season
Rhizoma Homalomenae can be planted year-round, but the ideal time is from February to March or August to September, ensuring strong growth and high-quality yield.
- Rhizoma Homalomenae Harvesting Process
The harvesting of Rhizoma Homalomenae follows these steps:
- Step 1: Identify the harvesting area, clear vines and surrounding shrubs to facilitate access.
- Step 2: Cut the rhizome about 2-3 nodes away from the base of the plant. Then, remove the cut rhizome and leave the remaining stem for continued growth.
- Step 3: Remove the soil clinging to the rhizome, then place it in a basket for transportation out of the harvesting area.
- Step 4: The harvested mature rhizomes are washed and cut into short sections (10 to 30 cm). They are quickly dried at about 50°C to evenly dry the outer surface. The outer bark and small roots are peeled off. Continue drying or sun-drying at 50°C to 60°C until fully dried.
Product standards required:
- Dried Rhizoma Homalomenae without preservatives or sulfur content
- Maximum moisture content: 14%
- Maximum impurities: 0.5%
- Color: Natural
